Translation memory system
Combine language and memory with wordinc
What is translation memory?
A translation memory (TM) is an innovative technology that enables translators to work more efficiently and consistently.
It is a text database that stores all translated texts and recognizes passages the recur within a text or among different texts. These repetitions can be perfectly identical ("100% match"), or similar but not completely identical segments ("fuzzy matches").
A translation memory comprises language pairs consisting of a source language and a target language.
How does translation memory work?
Both the source texts and the translations are stored as segments in the translation memory. During the translation process, the TM automatically detects matching paragraphs or phrases and suggests these saved translations to the translator.
The translator can accept the suggested translations directly or adapt them as required, and those changes are then also saved in the translation memory.
Why should you use translation memory?
By using a translation memory, texts can be translated faster and more consistently, since the same paragraphs or phrases do not have to be translated several times.
The efficiency of a translation memory is particularly evident in the case of large text volumes or a high number of jobs with many repetitions. It facilitates the translator's work and can lead to cost savings, since we naturally discount matches.
It should be noted, however, that a translation memory cannot produce a machine translation, and that it supports but does not replace the translator's performance.
What is the difference between a terminology database and a translation memory?
A terminology database is a directory for translations of specific terms and expressions. Such databases are created and filled in manually.
On the other hand, a translation memory stores source texts and translations, automatically recognizes repetitions, and makes them available to the translator during the translation process. Both can be used independently of each other.
By using both tools, we can guarantee that your translations are not only produced quickly and efficiently, but are also consistent and terminologically correct. We will be happy to provide you with an individual offer tailored to your needs and requirements.
