Paddleboat or jet? Your voyage to stronger multimedia communication

Paddleboat or jet? Your voyage to stronger multimedia communication

Trying to grow your business using one kind of media is like trying to get from Oslo to Venice in a paddleboat: sure, you’ll make it eventually, but you can save time and energy using modern tools. And you won’t get sunburned.

What exactly are the modern tools of multimedia communication? And how can you use them to get your business out of that sailboat and into a jet? Keep reading for the answers to these questions, and to find out how wordinc can do more than, say, translate your online shop … we can help you on your way to better marketing communication.

So what the heck is multimedia communication?

It’s communication using different types of media. Ok, on to the next point …

(Just kidding.)

Let’s start by naming as many types of media used in communication as we can. For the first one, we’ll give you a hint: we’re using it right now. Yes, text is the medium as old as the marketing game itself. Simple, effective, and field tested, you could even call it the paddleboat of online communication media. Text is good for attention-grabbing headlines, building an informative website, and engaging with your customers on social media.

But the paddleboat was never meant to be your all-purpose mode of transportation. For the same reason, text alone won’t get your business everywhere it needs to go. This is the point in your voyage where you have to dock the paddleboat and hop on that plane, train or automobile. In communication terms, it is the point where you let go of a single medium and embrace multimedia.

The other major players in the communication game are video, audio and image. Where text engages the mind, video aims for the heart. Audio is the medium of choice for anyone trying to get the most from their time, whether it’s listening to a podcast while cooking or listening to the radio on the ride to work. And one good picture can convey in an instant what you would need a thousand words to describe. Multimedia, then, is necessary for building a flexible, agile communication strategy that says what you need to say and in the best possible way.

If you are ready to start your voyage into multimedia, or are already underway and could use some support, wordinc is here for you. Here are four ways we can help strengthen your multimedia strategy.

#1. Editing voiceover text. Maybe you have a crack team that can film or animate a short video that you hope will go viral. You might even have a rough idea of what the voiceover text should say. Whether you have a script that needs polishing, notes to be fleshed out, or no idea where to begin writing, wordinc can help. Send us your first draft and we’ll sharpen it into a final text ready to be recorded. If a rough outline is all you have, we can find the perfect words to win the hearts and minds of your audience.

#2. Translating subtitles. Ok, your voiceover text has reached perfection and has already been recorded. You publish the video and expect a billion views by the end of the day … but that’s not what happens. After a few views, a handful of likes and a couple of shares, the hype fades and never returns. Analysis shows that the all the views came from your home country.

Why didn’t it go international?

One reason could be that you haven’t yet translated subtitles into different languages. wordinc can translate your voiceover text and, using the Subtitle Edit software, optimize line breaks and character count to make your subtitles as legible and seamless as possible, helping you reach your biggest audience yet. Once you translate your subtitles, you are one step closer to fulfilling your dream of viral stardom.

#3. Transcribing audio. Recording an interview is a great way to quickly create one piece of content that can birth many others. Not only do you have an audio file that you can turn into a podcast or share through your social media channels; you can also convert the conversation itself into a transcription of the audio, and once you have turned that audio into text format, it can be sculpted into many shapes.

For example, a transcription can be kneaded into a printed interview and published on your blog. Or if you’re short on time, release the lump of text word for word. You could also mold its contents into a white paper and make it available as a free download, or carve it up into a series of posts on your blog or social media channels, maybe even as a countdown of the five key takeaways from the conversation.

But you won’t get very far with any of these ideas without the transcription. And that’s where wordinc enters the picture. Not only can we create the transcription of the audio and clean up the raw output, we can also create any of the above-mentioned pieces of content, as well as any other ideas you have. Just send us the recording and let us do the rest.

#4. Writing image captions. You want to share the group selfie you took at your last corporate event. Your international customer base is sure to engage with the image on social media, and you need to post soon because you know this is the time of day when most of your followers are online. All that’s missing is the perfect caption.

It’s in situations like this that the creative team at wordinc comes alive. We’ll copywrite multiple options so you can choose the one you like best, or if you already have an idea, we’ll make sure it is linguistically sound. After all, you don’t want to be the company that shares a selfie of your happy staff celebrating at the summer cookout with the caption “We’re letting it crash!” (That’s the literal translation of the German krachen lassen, which roughly means “to party hard.”)

By now, you should see that text, video, audio and images are the paddleboat, Porsche, passenger train and private jet of communication. Each serves a unique purpose, and when used in combination, they can take you on the voyage of a lifetime.
